Medical Qigong Therapy

Qigong is a combination of two ideas:

Qi- means air, breath of life, or vital energy that flows through all things in the universe.

Gong- means the skill of working with, or cultivating vital energy, or the ability to work with the electromagnetic energy of the body.

Qigong is a mind-body practice that improves ones mental and physical health by integrating postures, movements, breathing techniques, and focused intention.

Medical Qigong TherapyMedical Qigong Therapy is the oldest of the four branches of TCM and provides the energetic foundation from which acupuncture, herbal healing, and Chinese massage oriented. This therapy incorporates posture, movement, breathing, meditation, creative visualization, and spiritual intent to improve health, personal power, and control over one's own life.

Disruptions in the electromagnetic energy of the body occur throughout our lifetime as a result of poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, injuries, surgery, suppression of emotions, and aging.
The goal of Qigong is to correct these bio-energetic imbalances and blockages. This enables the body to strengthen and regulate the internal organs, the nervous system and the immune system, relieve pain, regulate hormones, and strengthen and release deep-seated emotions and stress.

In the Medical Qigong treatment the practitioner will transfer Qi to the patient for healing purposes. This therapy offers patients a safe and effective way to rid themselves of toxic pathogens and years of painful emotions that otherwise, can cause mental and physical illness. Healing occurs through balancing the life force energy or Qi, which surrounds and pervades all living things. Medical Qigong therapists are trained to feel this Qi energy- its density, texture, emotional content, and other qualities- in order to diagnose and then to adjust the energy to recreate balance in the patient's body.

Medical Qigong and Cancer

Illness is an energy imbalance, an excess or deficiency of the body's elemental energies. According to the ancient Chinese, Qi, the life force, controls the body's workings as it travels along the meridians, completing an energy cycle every twenty-four hours. A person is healthy when there is a balanced, sufficient flow of Qi, which keeps the blood and body fluids circulating and fights disease. But if the circulation of Qi is blocked for any reason or becomes excessive or deficient, pain and disease can result. The flow of Qi may be disrupted by an imbalanced diet or lifestyle, overwork, stress, repressed or excessive emotions, or lack of exercise. Imbalances in yin and yang-complementary forces in dynamic flux-also disturb the normal, smooth flow of Qi.

Cancer, like all other diseases, is regarded as a manifestation of an underlying imbalance. The tumor is the "uppermost branch," not the "root," of the illness. Each patient may have a different imbalance causing what outwardly looks like the same type of cancer. Each person is unique, so the Oriental doctor attempts to identify the exact individual pattern of excess, deficiency, or blockage that led to the disease.

Emotions can strongly influence the increase or decrees of tumor size, and it is therefore important to regulate the patient's mind, emotions, and spirit. When the patient's mind, emotions and spirit are free from disruptions and are in harmony, the patient is able to manage negative emotions. Regulating the Mind is considered the primary Medical Qigong technique used for teaching patients how to avoid creating negative emotions.
The patient must learn to let optimism prevail over pessimism. The practice of Medical Qigong not only cultivates vital energy for the patient's health, but promotes the development of optimism by developing a quiescent mind. Tranquility and optimism improve circulation of Qi and Blood, thereby strengthening the immune system and inhibiting cancer cell proliferation.
